We are a friendly, supportive, and innovative training Practice in inner city Bradford.  Kensington is based over 4 sites so even with a main base you would have the opportunity to work across the sites for some diversity at times. We have a patient list size of approximately 24,000 delivering high quality care to our diverse group of patients.

We have a dedicated team of 6 GP Partners, GP Registrars and Foundation Year Doctor, ANP, ACP, Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Practice Nurses, HCAs, Receptionists and Administration teams.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Medical Summariser/ Data Coder for our busy GP Practices at Kensington Partnership.

Applicants need to demonstrate a professional and friendly manner. Along with advanced computer skills and medical terminology knowledge is essential, for coding clinical and non-clinical letters onto the patient records. Applicants will have to have a good attention for detail and work with a high level of accuracy. Applicants need to demonstrate good organisational skills and willingness to work individually and as part of a team. Experience of medical summarising, read coding and SystmOne is essential.

Job Summary:

The Summarisers and Data Coders are the initial point of contact from secondary care, external agencies and for new patients records at the practice with the clinicians, other clinical and non-clinical staff. This encompasses sorting post and scanning all documentation, summarising new patients’ records, monitoring our NHS mailbox and faxes, coding clinical/non-clinical letters into SystmOne, and processing any actions from clinical letters and other communications, sending medial or legal documents to secondary care or external agencies.

Main Duties and Responsibilities for Summarising:

  • Culling, sorting and scanning the post
  • Scanning documents and matching to patients records and tasking the relevant departments
  • Sorting paper records and letters in preparation for medical summarising.
  • Read coding the information into the practice clinical system (systmone)
  • Reviewing medical records and producing an accurate summary of the patient’s medical history.
  • Being prepared to audit data collection standards
  • Monitor progress of notes summarising against practice targets
  • Producing subject access reports or medical reports for patients (private or NHS)
  • Sorting and allocating online consultations to clinicians
  • Dealing with patient requests via other departments within the practice

The practice works towards the principle of a paper light environment. The main task of the post holder is to summarise and read code the relevant priority information from clinical records and then to enter this information into the practice computer system. This is done with strict accordance to the practice note summarising protocol.

Main Duties and Responsibilities for Data Coding:

  • Being instrumental in maintaining high standards of data quality practice wide, identifying and resolving any issues when coding communications into the practice onto the clinical system.
  • Reviewing the letters as coded to ensure any action required i.e., appointments, medications or contact is sent to the correct departments to process.

  • Medical terminology knowledge for interpreting information

Flexibility of Working Hours:

You will be expected when appropriate, as part of your role, to cover some admin tasks during extended hours, sickness and annual leave, which is integral to the effective running of the Practice across sites. And you may be required to work/ travel at all 4 practices within this role.

Essential Skills:

The post holder will have:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • A background in Notes Summarising (clinical or non-clinical)
  • A background in medical coding information

Desirable Skills:

The post holder will ideally have:

  • Previous experience of SystmOne/ EMIS
  • Previous healthcare/ GP surgery experience
  • Experience of producing medical reports
  • Medical training background
